The Importance of Being

“We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery” H. G. Wells (1866 - 1946)

In these beautiful days of summer it’s amazing how we can see more clearly and truly appreciate the joy and beauty in all that is around us. The sun lights up the landscape and seems to even light up our souls.

These days remind me of the importance of just Being. Being for me is living in the present moment, living in the Now, appreciating and absorbing the beauty in all that is here. Not allowing thoughts of the past, or future to enter our minds. It is a total stillness, a total peacefulness within. It is allowing us to truly be how we are meant to be – Free. Free from stress, anxiety and worry.

So how can you start “Being” more in every day of your life? It’s very simple, and the more you practise it the more you will want to do it. Simply sit where you are right now, breathe deeply and slowly, and start to notice all that surrounds you. Acknowledge and be thankful for it all, and gently begin to still your mind. Sit in stillness gazing at what you find most beautiful, whether that be a tree, flower or even a potted plan. As you do don’t even think of the flower or tree, allow your mind to be empty, totally free of any thought. You will know when you are there as your mind will be still; you will feel at peace and at ease. Sit for a long as you can, whether that is 30 seconds or 30 minutes. At first you might find this difficult as us humans are so conditioned to be thinking, thinking and thinking. Build it up as you go along and each day incorporate “Being” into your life.

The benefits of being at one with yourself and all that is now, is truly wonderful. It allows you to be calmer, more centred and experience the joy of life. It enables us to appreciate more what is here and now, and be grateful for all that is.

Enjoy each moment of your Being!
